Winslow
2001 Turakirae Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon/Franc
Inky wine with dense, ripe berry
fruit, plum and cracked pepper flavours, as well as a velvety texture and
amazing concentration. Elegance on a grand scale. Great
potential

Winslow
2001 Petra Cabernet Sauvignon
Deep, dense wine with strong
cranberry, violet and cooked beetroot flavours plus a solid influence of smoky
French oak. Firm tannins suggest good cellaring potential.

I am a huge fan of Winslow
Riesling especially the St. Vincent Reserve, intense lime and mineral flavours
with an exquisite knife-edge acidity and an ethereal texture. Winslow Turakirae
Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc is an outstanding red with an array of complex
flavours including cassis, plum, cedar, blackcurrant, liquorice & spicy
oak.

2001 Turakirae Reserve: 4 ½ glasses
Spicy oak and ripe
blackcurrants get it together in the bouquet. It’s smooth, richly fruited and
assertively tannic on the palate.

Winslow is a low-profile
winery, making its mark producing distinctive quality
wines.
Conventional wisdom has it that
Martinborough is not the right place to grow cabernet sauvignon, but Steve &
Jennifer Tarring are determined to prove the doubters wrong. They went a long
way towards this when their 1998 Turakirae Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet
Franc won a gold medal at the International Wine & Spirit competition in
London. But the Winslow story is not just about reds. The company has produced
some startlingly good Rieslings in the last couple of years, as well as an
attractive cabernet-based rosé. A visit to their tiny cellar shop is a rewarding
experience.

One of the most striking
claret-style reds produced in the district (Martinborough), Winslow Turakirae
Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon/Franc 2001 (*****) offers intense brambly, spicy
flavours seasoned with toasty oak and a backbone of firm, chewy
tannins.
